Lilies are my mom’s favorite flower, so it was especially exciting to weld this masterpiece! I had ambitious intentions for this project: creating an intertwined stem. During this process, I learned how to use the Oxyacetylene blowtorch. I intermittently heated the thin rods and twisted them together, little by little. See the video below!
From there, I MIG welded everything together. Drawing from my previous flower-welding experience, I laser cut the petals with tabs on them. The tabs helped provide extra surface area for welding.
For the finishing details, I welded nuts on the ends of the rods to represent the anther of the flower. Since I was working with zinc-coated metal, I needed strong ventilation and a proper mask.
Overall, I think this flower turned out very beautifully. I didn’t take too many pictures, but enjoy the few below!
